Ready-to-use ESL lesson plans for young learners

Looking for simple, no-prep PowerPoint lessons to keep your youngest learners engaged while learning English? This unit is designed to make learning fun, interactive, and easy to follow.

This third unit focuses on Animals, helping young learners build confidence with basic English through familiar and engaging content. It includes 5 lessons of 30-45 minutes each, with opportunities to extend activities depending on your class needs.

Lesson 1: I have a pet

In this lesson, students will review previous content from Unit 1 and 2 like feelings, numbers and colors, then tart learning some basic vocabulary related to pets. There will be a focus on linking the words or verbs we already know to the new ones we are learning, for example, the verb “to have”: Do you have pets? I have a cat.

The main key words are: bird, dog and cat. There is also a new number introduced: 12.

Lesson 2: On the farm

In this Lesson we focus on some farm animals and colors. Some of the target sentences are: It’s a cow. It’s black. I have a cow. I don’t have a sheep.

The key words in this lesson are: cow, sheep and pig, we also work on the color black.

Lesson 3: The jungle

We move on to the jungle animals in this lesson and we focus on the grammar structure: I like…/I don’t like… We also work on some of the adjectives we previous learned in Unit 2: big and small, and use the colors to describe the animals too.

The key words in this lesson are: monkey, elephant, tiger and brown. I find this one to be very fun =)

Lesson 4: Under the sea

Under the sea….! Fun sea animal lesson in which we continue practicing I ike/I don’t like. We also review the other animals and colors and introduce a new number: 13.

The key words in this lesson are: turtle, fish, shark and thirteen.

Lesson 5: What can animals do?

We start introducing some action words in this unit to describe what animals can do. It’s a small introduction of the verb “can” and “can’t”,

The key words in this lesson are: swim, run, fly and scared.
